Katie Martin, PhD, is the CEO of More Than Food Consulting, LLC whose goal is to advance organizational and systems change in the charitable food system to ensure people have economic and nutrition security. She is recognized as a thought leader on food security issues and has over 25 years of experience developing and evaluating programs to promote health, stability and financial wellbeing. She earned a Ph.D. in Nutrition Science & Policy from Tufts University. Katie is happily married, is the proud mom of two sons, and blessed to be a host parent for an exchange student from Nigeria.

Although food banks and pantries have distributed billions of pounds of food for decades, food insecurity remains a persistent public health problem. COVID-19 has exposed structural inequalities and systemic injustices that make it hard for people to afford enough to eat. During the pandemic, food banks and pantries have adjusted to serve more people in creative ways. What lessons have we learned? Before joining Foodshare, Katie was an Assistant Professor and Director of the Public Health program at the University of Saint Joseph. She has a Ph.D. in Nutritional Science & Policy from Tufts University. Moderated by Kathleen Merrigan, director of ASU's Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems.
