More than a century of detailed records of temperature, rain, and snowfall confirm that the climate is changing. We must curb the emission of heat-trapping gases that drive this change. But because we are already experiencing the extreme weather associated with climate change, we also need to prepare ourselves and our communities for the effects.
Taking Action on Climate Change
Island Press has a long-standing commitment to making the best information about climate change accessible, relevant, and actionable.
Climate change and solutions are incorporated into all our work. But we have also developed resources to help people who have a specific interest in learning more about climate change and taking action. We share scientific findings, new perspectives, and policy recommendations to ensure this invaluable information helps people become stronger voices for climate change action in their communities.
Resources
Our urban resilience initiative is identifying effective ways for cities to become more resilient to climate change. Click here to read more.
Among our many partners, we collaborate with The Security and Sustainability Forum (SSF) to produce discussions online. SSF is a public interest group that produces learning events about climate security and reaches more than 9,000 professionals through their network. Many of their free webinars have featured Island Press authors leading discussions about how to meet climate security challenges.
Island Press co-founded the Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE) to enrich, strengthen, and accelerate thinking on climate change adaptation. CAKE makes it easy for decision-makers on the ground and at the policy level to share adaptation resources, data, tools, best practices, connections, and lessons learned.
We also make data more accessible so that it can be used by those who need it. Island Press has made the National Climate Assessment Regional Input Reports—developed to inform the 2013 National Climate Assessment—available in print and electronic formats. The series comprises nine regional reports that highlight past climate trends, projected climate changes and vulnerabilities, and impacts to specific sectors. See the list of reports here.
