The Island Press Board of Directors includes two Emerging Leaders Director positions, who each serve a three-year term. We welcome Emerging Leader applications from degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students in good academic and disciplinary standing or professionals who have graduated with an undergraduate or graduate degree in the last three years on a rolling basis.
Emerging Leaders at Island Press will attend Board meetings and work with the Board of Directors and the senior management on Board committees and special projects. The positions are designed to support and nurture students and young professionals who wish to gain experience within book publishing and nonprofit environmental organizations.
Emerging Leaders will be volunteers and voting members of the Board of Directors. At Board meetings they will participate in discussions of the strategies, finances, and governance that will help shape the future of Island Press. We intend for Emerging Leaders to augment their professional development through direct experience with planning, networking, and learning about the trends and issues facing book publishing and environmentally focused nonprofit organizations. Island Press will pay for any travel and other expenses associated with their service.
